There's been considerable interest in my post on the fatal accident last month at the crosswalk in front of the Silver Lake Trader Joe's. Bill Wingard, the man who died there on Jan. 20 at the age of 43, led a rich life. A native of South Carolina, he was a model, actor, playwright, and producer active in the local theater scene. This is his biography at Company of Angels, which he joined in 2005. Here is the link to the online petition for a safer crosswalk at 2730 Hyperion. Thank you neighbors and readers for the comments. Here is a recent one from Algernon with an important update:
Bill Wingard was a friend of mine, and I regularly cross at that very crosswalk. In response to a fury of activity, we learned from the city that an order for a full traffic signal was actually scheduled some time ago, with construction slated for April and completion by July. Too late for Bill's sake, but it will slow traffic down and give pedestrians to cross the street without losing their life.
My respects and condolences go out to Bill's family and friends.
