Here's another reason why the L.A. Times will probably die before your car battery does: LAObserved reports the comics page has cut Lalo Alcaraz's "La Cucaracha." The paper also cut "Candorville" by Darrin Bell. Funny thing, those were the only two strips I actually read. (Both Lalo and Darrin went to UC Berkeley.) Alcaraz, who said he was given no reason for the dismissal, is putting up a fight. He'll be discussing the matter on his Friday afternoon show on KPFK, "The Pocho Hour of Power," with Esteban Zul, aka the Ambassador of Aztlan to Cuba. The commentary and chatter is always good, but their parody songs are the most chistoso. * Alcaraz still does single-panel comics for the LA Weekly.
