LAPD Chief William Bratton told reporters yesterday that a platoon of cops from the Metro Division has been "stood down," meaning they've been taken off the streets until they complete an investigation of what went wrong at MacArthur Park:
"Some of them in all likelihood won't be returning to the Metropolitan Division as a result of our findings," he said. "Some of this will be career-impacting."
Bratton updated some numbers: He said cops outnumbered agitators 15 to 1, down-graded the number of agitators from 50-100 to 30-40, and said 148 non-lethan shots were fired, not 240. Meanwhile, Bob Baker of the Police Protective League is still saying we should stop asking for accountability from the LAPD because it's hurting officers' feelings. Tell that to the guy with the throbbing red welt on his back. Good May Day photos here.
