In dens and sports bars across the great brown lands of California, there was a momentary uproar on Saturday night before Floyd Mayweather beat "Golden Boy" Oscar de la Hoya (called that) in a split decision after 12 rounds of uninspired boxing in Las Vegas. It happened when Mayweather entered the MGM Grand arena wearing red, white, and green, Mexico's national colors, and the words "Mayweather loves Mexico" on his robe. The uproar wasn't because for a minute it seemed like he was mocking Cinco de Mayo -- or honoring it, which is basically like mocking it anyway. It was because Mayweather decided to wear a white mariachi sombrero with his Mexican outfit -- and because he wore that sombrero backwards. (Listen here for some scandalized voices of reaction.)
