Meanwhile, people keep getting killed at random

From Jill Leovy's Homicide Blog, here's another hard-to-take post, on the murder of 18-year-old Joshua Davis in the Athens area of South L.A. His parents watched him die in front of their house. Visiting a grieving family as a reporter is such an emotionally charged experience, every time; Leovy arrived unannounced two days later and writes about being treated cordially and with respect.
