So proclaimed Ed Fuentes at View from a Loft after learning that excessive graffiti tagging on the '84 Olympics-era murals on the 101 led them to be buffed over in those hideous neutral tones favored so by CalTrans. My personal favorite kid on "L.A. Freeway Kids" (by muralist Glenna Boltuch Avila) was that ethnically neutral kid in the middle who appears to be jumping in mid-air, his hair standing on end behind him. See also pieces in La Opinion and L.A. Times.
Over at Ken Burns Hates Mexicans, Jimmy Mendiola links to an outrageous video of a tagger named BUKET from TKO bombing the 101 in broad daylight. In and out in a matter of seconds. Undeniably impressive -- except for the whole illicit, vandalism, extreme danger thing. Don't drivers pay attention to the landscape? A commenter writes, "Brave kid. I see special forces in his future, with a specialty in explosives."
